St George’s Crypt
Sleeping Rough

St George’s Crypt is a Christian charity that helps homeless and disadvantaged people in Leeds. We’ve been their design partner for many years and one way we supported their work was by producing a hard-hitting annual report, which communicated the issues faced by their clients. 

We called the report ‘Sleeping Rough’ and commissioned award-winning photographer John Angerson to capture the environments in which many homeless people are forced to sleep. Some of these were well-known and others we discovered using the inside knowledge of clients at the Crypt. 

We then wrapped the report in a package that mimics the cardboard boxes used as bedding by many homeless people. Unfolded, it also resembles a Christian cross. John was so inspired by the project that he went on to photograph similar locations in Milton Keynes and Brighton.
