Orangebox is a £3.8 million facility in the deprived heart of Halifax. Its aim was to motivate, inform and inspire young people who otherwise had very little to do. Designed by award-winning architects Studio BAAD, it featured a performance space, recording studio, IT suite and sport facilities, as well as a rooftop skate park. We were approached to give it an equally arresting visual identity.
Choosing orange as their lead corporate colour was the first easy step. Then we set about developing a distinctive logotype and a completely unique bespoke typeface. This unmistakably individual type allowed us to create a distinctive wayfinding system, industrial-inspired signs made from rusty core 10 metal and a range of literature with key words highlighted. The typeface also helped us design some really distinctive staff T-shirts.
